July, 2003:  The Kit Sfekas Memorial Scholarship Fund

     A scholarship fund has been established in memory of the Honorable James "Kit" Sfekas.  Kit was very active in the Mt. Hebron community and his family and friends felt that establishing a scholarship fund in his name would be the best way of honoring his memory.  The scholarship fund will benefit college bound seniors at Mt. Hebron High School.  Anyone who would like to donate to the scholarship fund should send the donation to The Kit Sfekas Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc., 2321 Mt. Hebron Drive, Ellicott City, Maryland 21042.

February 26, 2003:  Courts Adopt New Electronic Filing System

            The United States District Court for the District of Maryland (Baltimore and Greenbelt) will allow attorneys to begin filing pleadings electronically over the Internet starting March 3, 2003.  The new system will also allow 24/7 access over the Internet to court documents.  Information about the new system, attorney registration, and training is available at the court’s web site:  http://www.mdd.uscourts.gov/CMECF/cmecfstart1.asp.  Information about a training session sponsored by the James McGill chapter of the American Inns of Court on April 10, 2003, is available by clicking here:  Inns Training.

On October 17, 2001, a ceremony was held to dedicate the new District Court Courtroom in honor of The Honorable J. Thomas Nissel, first District Court Judge for Howard County.  All present and former Howard County District Court Judges attended, along with Chief Judge Robert Bell.  The Howard County Bar Association presented a photograph of Judge Nissel to be hung in the
Courthouse and provided refreshments.  Tours of the new Courtroom and the new Judges' Chambers were given.
